Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University volleyball team swept St. Joseph's Long Island and FDU-Florham to conclude the 2025 regular season on Saturday afternoon at the Panzer Athletic Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Hawks (26-5) fell behind the Golden Eagles early, 6-3, but battled back with seven of the next eight points, headlined by a pair of kills from CAMRYN MUUSS. After the visitors trimmed the margin to 12-10, five consecutive points from the Red Hawks vaulted them out by seven, led by Muuss and BRYN BAUTISTA. Up 21-14, Montclair used kills from BREANNA CRAIG and Bautista down the stretch to claim the first set by nine points.
- With the contest level at six, LILY THOMAS recorded a kill and LUCY CORNELIUS notched an ace as part of a 6-1 run to push the Red Hawks out 12-7 in the second stanza. The two sides traded the next six points before Bautista rattled off consecutive kills to make the margin six. The Golden Eagles battled back to trim the set to 20-17, with SOFIA DIPROFIO recording a kill to end the run. The next six points were traded between the two sides, as Bautista clinched the second frame with a kill off a feed from Cornelius.
- St. Joseph's Long Island raced out to a 6-2 advantage in the third set before Muuss countered with a pair of kills to end the run. With the visitors up 9-6, Montclair embarked on an 8-2 extended run headlined by two more kills from Muuss to surge ahead by three. Shortly after, the Red Hawks collected four consecutive points, ending with another kill from Bautista. Up five, Montclair closed the match with five of the last six points, four being kills from Bautista.
- In the day's final contest, the Red Hawks ballooned a 7-1 lead in the beginning stages. The Devils climbed back to trim the contest to 11-7, but Bautista and HAYDEN NEUHAUS produced back-to-back points. With the game 15-11, Muuss and Craig combined for three points to answer, but FDU-Florham embarked on an extended run to come within three, 24-21. Bautista ended the set with a kill to push the Red Hawks ahead.
- The Devils jumped out 10-5 in the second stanza before Montclair rattled off six points in a row, including four from Bautista. Six of the next seven went to the Devils to push them back in front by four, but the Red Hawks collected the next six on three more kills from Bautista. FDU-Florham battled back with five of the next seven and eventually tied the frame at 23. Craig recorded a kill, and an attack error clinched the set for Montclair.
- Montclair tallied seven of the first 10 points of the third frame and then used a 7-1 run to race out to a 14-5 advantage. After a pair of points for the visitors, the Red Hawks recorded four in a row with two more kills from Bautista. FDU-Florham trimmed the margin to 22-14 later in the stanza, as Cornelius tallied a kill followed by an attack error from the Devils to push it to match point. Following a pair of points for the Devils, Bautista ended the afternoon with a kill to secure the sweep.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
- With the pair of victories, Montclair tied its program wins record of 26, set during the 2016 season. Additionally, they pushed their new all-time high for home wins to 16.
- Bautista recorded 16 kills and 12 digs in the day's first match, compiling another double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs against FDU-Florham in the finale. With the pair, she increased her season total for double-doubles to 13.
- Muuss totaled 29 kills across the two matches, recording double-figures in nine of her last 12 performances.
- Thomas accumulated five blocks in both contests to lead the way defensively for the Red Hawks.

We played a solid match against St Joseph's especially from a serve receive standpoint. We followed that with a solid all around performance against FDU-Florham.
