Men's Basketball Falls to Ramapo, 80-66

Mahwah, NJ The Montclair State University men's basketball team fell to Ramapo 80-66 on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (15-6, 10-4 NJAC) fell behind early as Ramapo jumped out to a 14-7 advantage three minutes into the contest. Montclair stopped the run on the next possession with a three-pointer from JACOB MORALES, but the Roadrunners later pushed the lead to 11 at the 12:32 mark of the opening stanza.
  • Montclair answered with 13 consecutive points over the next three minutes, including back-to-back buckets from QUANTAVIOUS ROGERS. The Red Hawks forced six turnovers during that span, and capped off the run by taking the lead on two free throw makes from RYAN CASSELS
  • After AHMAD ROBERTSON sunk a three to make the score 29-26 with 8:17 on the clock, Ramapo notched the game's next 11 points to jump out to a nine point advantage with five and a half minutes before half. Robertson answered with a pull-up jumper, and MIKE JACKSON sunk a three-point shot to cut the deficit to one possession. The Roadrunners closed the half up nine, going into the break up 47-38.
  • Jackson opened the second half with a three-point make off a feed from KABRIEN GOSS, but Ramapo embarked on a 13-4 scoring run over the next four minutes to take a 15-point advantage. Morales ended the run with a driving layup and Cassels sunk a three to cut the deficit to 10, but the Roadrunners pushed the margin to 17 with 11 minutes remaining. 
  • KIERAN FLANAGAN ended the run with a layup and Morales hit consecutive buckets to trim the deficit to 11 with 8:34 on the clock. Montclair would get within single digits with three and a half minutes remaining as MYLES PRIMAS connected on a three, but Ramapo closed the night with eight of the final 11 points to seal the home victory.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Morales led the way for the Red Hawks with a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds. He has recorded double-figure points in 16 consecutive games and 20 points in seven contests this season.
  • Jackson notched 12 points along with a career-high seven steals.
  • Defensively, the Red Hawks forced 23 turnovers on the night.
