Men’s Lacrosse Earns 19-8 Road Win at SUNY New Paltz

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team (2-0) hit the road and secured a dominant 19-8 victory over SUNY New Paltz (0-2) on Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Red Hawks struck first when ETHAN MOUNIER assisted MAX MOROSOFF at the 12:32 mark. Montclair quickly extended the lead with three goals in under a minute, from 5:52 to 5:05, making it 4-0. New Paltz responded with a goal in the final three minutes of the first quarter, but Montclair had the last word as JACK CLEARY found the net with two seconds remaining, giving the Red Hawks a 5-1 advantage heading into the second.
  • CARTER FINNEN opened the scoring in the second quarter at 12:19, sparking a five-goal surge over the next six minutes to extend the lead to 10-1. JOHN CRANK notched two more goals—adding to his first-quarter tally—to secure his first hat trick of the season. The Hawks managed to score with just over a minute and a half remaining, but Montclair responded quickly with two goals from SEBASTIAN GRAZIANO, sending them into halftime with a commanding 12-2 lead.
  • The Red Hawks continued their dominance in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals. CODY COOPER struck first within the opening 90 seconds, followed by Morosoff completing his hat trick and Crank netting his fourth of the game. New Paltz avoided a scoreless quarter by sneaking in a goal with just one second left, but Montclair still held a commanding 16-3 lead heading into the final period.
  • In the fourth quarter, New Paltz tallied two early goals at 14:44 and 6:52, but SEAN FORD answered with his first two goals of the season for Montclair. The Hawks managed three more goals in the final three minutes, but RYAN BROWN sealed the victory with a last-second goal, capping off a 19-8 win for the Red Hawks.

Inside the Numbers

  • Crank led the team in points with six, recording four goals and two assists. Morosoff was the top goal-scorer, netting five, surpassing his four-goal performance in the season opener against Penn.
  • NICHOLI HALSE earned his second win of the season in goal. He started the game, playing 21 minutes, making three saves, and allowing just one goal. OWEN TORREY and GIANNI GRAZIANO also saw time in net, with Torrey making four saves in 15 minutes and Graziano leading the team with 10 saves in over 23 minutes of action.
  • Defensively, CORBIN QUINTERO was a force with three caused turnovers, while LUCAS NOVACK won 8-of-18 faceoffs and led the team with six ground balls.
  • The Red Hawks had another strong day on clears, successfully converting 21 of 25 attempts.
