DeSales Snaps Men’s Lacrosse’s Six-Game Win Streak, 13-9

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team (7-2) saw its six-game win streak get snapped when they were defeated by DeSales (2-7), 13-9 on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Red Hawks struck first at the 12:50 mark when JACK CLEARY fired in a shot to take a 1-0 lead. DeSales responded just over a minute later and added two more goals at 6:36 and 3:20 to go ahead 3-1. Montclair cut the deficit to 3-2 just before the quarter ended when CODY COOPER found JULIAN VARONA for a goal.
  • Both goalkeepers held firm for most of the second quarter, with NICHOLI HALSE making four saves and Hunter Waldron stopping three. MAX MOROSOFF eventually netted the equalizer at 5:55 to tie the game at 3-3. However, DeSales reclaimed the lead with two goals in the final 2:30 of the period, taking a 5-3 advantage into halftime.
  • The third quarter proved to be the turning point, as DeSales rattled off six unanswered goals between 13:01 and 8:59 to extend their lead to 11-3. Montclair responded with three straight goals—an unassisted effort from ETHAN MOUNIER, a Morosoff goal assisted by Cleary, and a SEBASTIAN GRAZIANO tally off a DAREN MAYER feed—narrowing the gap to 11-6. However, DeSales struck twice in the final minute to push their lead to 13-6 entering the fourth quarter.
  • The Red Hawks pressured early in the fourth, as Cooper scored off a Morosoff assist just 46 seconds in. Morosoff then completed his fifth hat trick of the season at the 12:02 mark, assisted by Varona, cutting the lead to 13-8. Montclair's defense locked down DeSales for the entire quarter, allowing no goals, but struggled to generate offensive chances, managing just five shots. Morosoff added one more goal, assisted by CARTER FINNEN, but DeSales held on for the 13-9 victory.
