Widener continued pressing with four more shots but failed to convert. Montclair extended its lead to 2-0 when Cooper assisted JOHN CRANK's goal at 7:47. Just over a minute later, Cooper found the net again off a MAX MOROSOFF assist, making it 3-0. Widener finally broke through at 2:57, closing the quarter with Montclair leading 3-1. The second quarter was a defensive battle. Montclair generated several chances early but was denied on three consecutive shots. Widener's first real opportunity came during a man-down situation at 7:20. Just before returning to full strength, they completed a successful clear and scored a short-handed goal at 6:53, cutting the lead to 3-2. Montclair responded just over a minute later, with Crank scoring his second goal off another Morosoff assist, pushing the lead to 4-2. Both defenses held firm, and the score remained unchanged at halftime. Widener struck first in the third quarter, scoring within the first three minutes. Montclair quickly responded with a three-goal burst between 11:19 and 10:14, extending the lead to 7-3. WILLIAM BURDGE, Cooper, and ETHAN MOUNIER each found the net during the run. Widener answered at 7:49, but Montclair countered at 6:53 when Morosoff assisted JACK CLEARY, making it 8-4. The Pride scored the final goal of the quarter with under two minutes left, narrowing the deficit to 8-5 heading into the fourth. The Red Hawks were held scoreless in the final frame but displayed strong defense.
