High Octane Offense Sparks 19-6 Senior-Day Win for Women’s Lacrosse

Montclair, NJ. – The Montclair State University women's lacrosse team (6-3) honored its five seniors for their achievements on and off the field before a high-octane offensive performance sparked a 19-6 win against Marywood (6-5) on Saturday.

How It Happened

  • Marywood struck first, scoring just 34 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. However, Montclair responded quickly, as CHELSEA STACK connected with KAELEY SEK for a goal just 23 seconds later, igniting an 8-0 run from 14:03 to 6:23 which gave the Red Hawks an 8-1 lead. Stack assisted Sek on four of those goals. Marywood briefly halted the run with a goal at the 3:56 mark, but Stack answered with two woman-up goals, extending Montclair's lead to 10-2. The Pacers managed to score with just three seconds left in the quarter, closing the period at 10-3.
  • The Red Hawks opened the second quarter with goals from NORAH MONAGHAN and LEXI ROBINSON at the 13:18 and 12:42 marks, pushing the lead to 12-3. Marywood managed to delay the 10-goal running clock rule with a goal at 11:07, but Montclair continued its offensive surge. Monaghan added two more goals, while Ava Abbiatello scored one, sending Montclair into halftime with a commanding 15-4 lead.
  • The Red Hawks' defense took over in the third quarter, holding Marywood scoreless and limiting them to just three shots, two of which were saved by goalkeeper JOEY GROTKOPF. Meanwhile, Montclair added three more goals from Monaghan, Stack, and SAMANTHA HANDZO, extending the lead to 18-4 heading into the final quarter.
  • The fourth quarter saw minimal scoring, with Montclair's last goal coming when Monaghan found MIA CUCCINELLO at the 14:02 mark. Marywood added two late goals, bringing the final score to 19-6.
