Women’s Lacrosse Bested by Kenyon, 18-12

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University women's lacrosse team (2-2) started strong but couldn't sustain their momentum, falling to Kenyon 18-12.

How It Happened
  • Montclair opened the game with three unanswered goals, taking a 3-0 lead. LEXI ROBINSON struck first off an assist from AMRA LUKOVIC at 11:57. Just over a minute later, Lukovic found the back of the net herself, followed by NORAH MONAGHAN scoring off a feed from JOELLE D'ANGELO at 9:54. The teams then traded four goals each for the remainder of the first quarter, with Montclair holding a 7-4 advantage.
  • Kenyon responded with three straight goals in the first 3:30 of the second quarter, tying the game at 7-7. A goal from CARA MCCARTNEY, assisted by CHELSEA STACK, briefly put Montclair back in front, but Kenyon rattled off four unanswered goals in the next eight minutes to take an 11-8 lead with 3:05 left in the half. Monaghan netted the final goal before the break at 2:31, cutting the deficit to 11-9.
  • McCartney opened the third quarter with a goal at 11:14, bringing Montclair within one. Kenyon quickly answered at 9:41 to maintain their lead. KAELEY SEK once again cut the deficit to one, but with just 15 seconds left in the quarter, Kenyon scored to extend their lead to 13-11.
  • The Owls put together three consecutive goals to build a 16-11 cushion. Lukovic added one more tally for the Red Hawks at 7:53, but Kenyon sealed the game with two late goals, securing an 18-12 victory.
Inside the Numbers
  • Despite the loss, Montclair outshot Kenyon 36-27 and held an 18-14 advantage in ground balls.
  • Monaghan led Montclair with four goals, while Lukovic posted a team-high five points on three goals and two assists.
  • DANIELLE DE JESUS registered four caused turnovers and collected four ground balls.
  • Goalkeeper JOEY GROTKOPF took the loss, making four saves, while LEA HEGEWALD recorded three saves in relief during the second half.
