Men’s Basketball Tripped Up in NCAA Second Round by Western New England

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University Men's Basketball team (22-7) saw their historic season come to an end in the NCAA Tournament Second Round as they were tripped up by Western New England (23-6), 79-61 on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Golden Bears got to buckets on the board before a KABRIEN GOSS three-pointer got the Red Hawks on the board. Goss was hot at the beginning of the quarter with eight points in the first six minutes of the game, to give Montclair a 13-8 lead. The two teams then continued to exchange buckets, with the Red Hawks holding a slight edge through the first half of the opening frame.
  • It was not until the 8:54 timestamp when WNE tied the game at 22-22, but a MIKE JACKSON three-ball put them back in front. Montclair held a small lead of 28-26 at the 5:53 mark before a 12-0 swing pushed Western New England out in front, 38-28. AHMAD ROBERTSON and KIERAN FLANAGAN both saw two points down the stretch, and a late tip-in make from the Golden Bears with a second left on the clock gave them a 40-32 lead entering the second half.
  • It was all Western New England through just over seven minutes into the half when they compiled a 14-6 run to put them up 56-38. It did not get any better for the Red Hawks down the stretch as their signature three ball did not fall, and Golden Bears never let them generate any true run and the team fell, 79-61.
