Men’s Lacrosse Comes Up Short on Senior Day Against Stockton, 13-12

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team (8-5, 0-3 CLC) honored its 10 seniors on Senior Day but came up just short in Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC) play, falling to rival Stockton 13-12 on Saturday.

How It Happened
  • The Ospreys struck first at the 11:19 mark and added another just over a minute later to take a 2-0 lead. Montclair responded with two goals from JOHN CRANK to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the second quarter.
  • Stockton regained momentum with three goals in the opening four minutes of the second quarter, pulling ahead 5-2. SEBASTIAN GRAZIANO scored around the 10-minute mark to cut the deficit to two. A pair of Stockton penalties at the 7:00 mark gave Montclair a man-up opportunity, which JACK CLEARY capitalized on with a goal to bring the Red Hawks within one, 5-4, with 5:58 remaining. The Ospreys added another goal at 2:09 and held Montclair scoreless for the remainder of the half, taking a 6-4 lead into the break.
  • Montclair came out firing in the second half. At 10:46, LOUIS AZARA found the back of the net, and just nine seconds later, LUCAS NOVACK won the face-off and scored to tie it at 6-6. The Red Hawks took their first lead of the game at the 4:48 mark when JULIAN VARONA scored to make it 8-7. Just 17 seconds later, Darren Mayer connected with Crank for his third goal, giving Montclair a 9-7 advantage. However, Stockton closed out the quarter with three unanswered goals—including one at the buzzer—to retake the lead, 10-9.
  • Stockton extended its lead early in the fourth with three quick goals in the first 3:30 to go up 13-9. Montclair refused to go quietly, beginning a late-game rally. MAX MOROSOFF scored a man-up goal off a pass from ETHAN MOUNIER at the 9:34 mark, then assisted Varona just 27 seconds later to cut the lead to 13-11. At 5:07, Morosoff notched another assist, this time to Cleary, making it a one-goal game. The Red Hawks fired five shots in the final minutes—including one on their last possession—but couldn't find the equalizer, and Stockton held on for the win.
