Men’s Lacrosse Defeated in CLC Quarterfinals at Kean, 14-9

Union, NJ – The sixth-seeded Montclair State University men's lacrosse team (8-8) had was defeated in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC) quarterfinals at third-seeded Kean (14-3), 14-9 on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Cougars came out of the gate hot with goals at the 13:40 and 12:41 to take a 2-0 lead. Montclair went on the offensive on the ensuing faceoff and produced six shots in the next four minutes, but could not find the back of the net. A penalty at 8:14 on the Red Hawks set Kean up with a man-up opportunity, where they capitalized with a goal 14 seconds later. They found two more goals at 6:24 and 2:30 to hold a 5-0 lead, but a goal with just four seconds left in the opening quarter by ETHAN MOUNIER halted the shutout and made the score 5-1 heading into the second quarter.
  • Mounier fired in another goal under two minutes into the second quarter to get the score within three. Kean answered back with a goal at 12:16 and collected another goal off the face off just six seconds later to jump out in front 7-2. The game went into a stalemate for about the next eight minutes, with Montclair producing seven shots to Kean's six. A goal from the Cougars at the 4:45 mark was followed by two goals down the 2:54 remaining in the first half, and gave Kean a 10-2 score. The Red Hawks saw another late possession goal with JULIAN VARONA scoring to put the score at 10-3 entering halftime.
  • The first goal of the second half came at the 9:59 timestamp off the stick of MAX MOROSOFF. The Cougars collected two more goals to their total at 9:19 and 7:04 to extend the lead to 12-4. Montclair found one last goal at the 4:55 mark when they capitalized on a man-up opportunity with JACK CLEARY finding CODY COOPER for a goal, and the score went 12-5 into the final quarter.
  • Montclair collected the fourth quarter's first goal. JOHN CRANK assisted Mounier's hat-trick at 12:41. Kean's offense continued to pressure with goals at the 11:33 and 8:53 timestamps to get out in front 14-6. The Red Hawks kept Kean off the scoreboard the rest of the way while finding three more goals down the stretch. Mounier found Morosoff for a goal at 8:25, SEBASTIAN GRAZIANO scored his first goal of the game with an assist to Crank, and Crank scored his own goal at 3:11. The game went final at 14-9, and Kean secured the advancement in the conference tournament.
