Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University volleyball team opens up the 2025 season in tri-match format, hosting Smith and Mount Aloysius on Friday.
GAME INFO
The matches will be played in the Panzer Athletic Center. Montclair will face Smith at 2:00 pm, Smith will take on Mount Aloysius at 4:00 pm, and Montclair versus Mount Aloysius will take place at 6:00 pm. Live coverage of the match can be found at montclairathletics.com.

SCOUTING SMITH
The Pioneers open the season receiving votes in the first American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll. In 2024, Smith compiled a program-high 31-7 overall record and a 9-2 record in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). In the NEWMAC Tournament, they defeated Wellesley (3-1), Springfield (3-2), and MIT (3-2) to win their first conference title in over a decade. They punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament and won their first-round matchup against Endicott, 3-0, before falling to Ithaca in the second round, 3-0. According to the 2025 Preseason Poll, they are projected to finish second this season.
SCOUTING MOUNT ALOYSIUS
The Mounties will face off with Smith to begin 2025. In 2024, Aloysius finished 14-15 with a 5-2 record in the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). In the AMCC conference tournament, they defeated Hilbert in the first round (3-0) before falling in the semifinals to Alfred State (3-0).
SERIES HISTORY
The Red Hawks and the Pioneers will face each other for the first time, while Montclair meets the Mount Aloysius for the third time in their series history. The series between the Red Hawks and the Mounties is 1-1
LAST MEETING
The last time Montclair met Mount Aloysius was on September 10, 2016, where Montclair earned a clean 3-0 sweep of the Mounties.
