#16 Men's Soccer Battles Moravian to Scoreless Draw

Bethlehem, PA The #16 Montclair State University men's soccer team battled Moravian to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (3-0-2) tried to jump ahead in the opening minute on a shot from DIEGO FLORES that went out to the top right of the frame. The Greyhounds answered with a pair of their own over the first 25 minutes of the contest, holding the Red Hawks without another attempt during that span.
  • Montclair made a push in the latter stages of the stanza, looking for the go-ahead strike, as TOMAS MONTEIRO ripped a shot shortly after checking into the contest. Monteiro was responsible for the first attempt on goal in the contest, as he tucked a shot towards the bottom corner of the net in the 33rd minute that was collected by the Moravian keeper.
  • After entering the game late in the first half, KEVIN CONTRERAS remained in the eleven to begin the second half and rocketed a shot towards the top of the net that had to be saved by the Greyhounds. LOGAN NENO saw a shot of his own parried away a few minutes later, with Contreras rattling the woodwork shortly after a corner kick in the 57th minute.
  • The visitors continued to push offensively as the second half progressed, as Flores placed a shot on target that was collected by the keeper. Six minutes later, DANNY TOBON had a pair of shots saved by the Greyhounds, who saw another Montclair shot ring off the woodwork, this time from Monteiro in the 80th minute. Both sides held tight defensively, preserving the hard-fought draw.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • The Red Hawks held a 19-5 advantage in shots and collected six on goal throughout the 90 minutes.
  • Defensively, Montclair held Moravian without a shot on goal. Through five games, the Red Hawks have conceded just 11 shots on frame.
  • DIESEL FIORE notched his third consecutive clean sheet and fourth in his first five starts with the program.
  • Montclair has allowed only one goal through 450 minutes, their best start defensively since the 2021 spring season.
