Field Hockey Tripped Up Franklin & Marshall, 3-1

Lancaster, PA – The Montclair State University field hockey team (1-2) was tripped up in its first road contest of 2025 at Franklin & Marshall (3-0), 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Diplomats put the pressure on early and capitalized in the first five minutes of the game when they were awarded a penalty
  • Franklin & Marshall's defense was hard to break through, holding Montclair to zero shots through the first half. F&M had three shots in the second quarter, including one with under two minutes left that found the back of the cage to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • The third quarter kicked off with an offensive flurry from the Diplomats, registering three penalty corners and four shots. Two of the shots were one goal, but were stopped by SYDNEY WHITE. White made another two saves between the 38th and 40th minutes, which opened the door for Montclair to get the ball into the offensive zone. Montclair controlled possession in the final two minutes of the period and generated two penalty corners and two shots, but were unable to score, and the game went 2-0 into the final frame.
  • The first six minutes of the fourth period were dominated by the Diplomats, who saw five penalty corners and rattled off seven shots. Sydney was a brick wall during that span, stonewalling five of those shots. At the 53:09 timestamp, the Red Hawks were awarded a penalty stroke, and SADIE EICHLIN sank it to avoid the shutout. Shortly after, F&M was also awarded a penalty stroke and capitalized for a 3-1 lead. The Red Hawks had the last surge of the game, seeing six penalty corners and firing off four shots, but were unable to get any to fall, and the game ended at 3-1.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • White finished her day with a career-high 13 saves in the loss. It is the highest mark from a Red Hawk goalkeeper since 2022, when Lauren Pickul had 14 saves against Williams.
  • F&M outshot Montclair, 24-9 (16-4 shots on goal) in the contests and edged them in penalty corners, 13-9.
  • Eichlin picked up her first goal of the season on the penalty stroke. She is a perfect 4-for-4 in penalty strokes in her career.
FROM THE FIELD
  • "We are continuing to learn and grow in a very challenging early-season schedule. I thought we did a great job battling and creating opportunities in the 4th quarter. Our defensive unit, led by ANNA DONALDSON and SYDNEY WHITE, was outstanding today. Syd stood tall and made countless critical saves. We are leading into the new week with confirmation and confidence. We know we are a great team, and we are hungry to keep putting the pieces together to be successful." Head Coach Eileen O'Reilly
UP NEXT
  • Montclair will remain on the road where they will visit Vassar on Wednesday, September 10, for a 6:00 p.m. game start.
