Reading, Pa. – The Montclair women's soccer team (2-0-1) went on the road to challenge Penn State-Berks (1-3-0) and cruised past the Lions by a score of 5-1 on Monday night
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It did not take long for the Red Hawks to get themselves on the scoreboard as ISABELL KRONOW found CARLY GUZZARDO at the 4:45 timestamp for the game's first goal.
- The Montclair defense was stout in the first half, limiting Penn State to only one shot in the first half that came in the 11th minute but was saved by SALANGE BELL.
- The Red Hawks continued to apply pressure on the Lions' defense throughout the first half. PSU-Berks was able to fend off another goal until the 41:41 mark, where MADELINE LESICA, after just missing the mark on a goal of her own, assisted SAMIRA LUKOVIC and helped give Montclair a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
- Montclair came out of the half with a few corner kicks and a few early shots that just missed the mark. At the 60th minute, MACKENZIE ALBERT hit the woodwork, but it was collected by KYLIE PRENDERGAST, who sank the rebound to extend the lead to 3-0.
- Just over three minutes later, EMILY SCHULER collected a ball in the Red Hawks' defensive midfield zone, where she belted the ball to LAUREN VINELLA, who pushed the ball up to Kronow for a one-on-one with the goalkeeper and cashed in to take a 4-0 advantage.
- Near the final five minutes of the game, Penn State avoided the shutout and scored at the 79:51 mark. Montclair found one more goal in the contest after GIANNA CURCI saw three shots in the final five minutes. The first missed over the top, and the second one was saved. Her third shot happened off a pass from KAYDEN ARAVENA that set her up nicely into the PSU-Berks penalty box , and she placed the shot into the back of the net to put the exclamation point on a terrific output for the Red Hawks.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
