Men’s Swimming & Diving Triumphant Against New Paltz on Senior Night

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State Men's Swimming & Diving team (5-1)  honored its six seniors before its triumphant 94-75 win against New Paltz (1-5) on Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks started hot with the top-two finishes in the 400 medley relay. The team of MICHAEL SALVATORI, FILIP SALEK, MASON WOODS, and MICHAEL WOJCIECHOWICZ led the way with a time of 3:39.19. They were followed by the mashup of ANDREW PEARCE, KAREL BEDOYA, DARREN ROCKWELL, and VINCENT TERZO, who notched second with a time of 3:49.11.
  • Montclair nabbed the top-three spots in the 1000 free. JORDAN LEDBETTER was at the forefront with a first-place finish of 10:37.03. He was followed by SEAN NUGENT (10:50.72), who finished second, and MICHAEL DIAZ (11:14.84), who nabbed third.
  • MAX SMILEVSKI took home first in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.94. Wojciechowicz shadowed him by a millisecond and placed second with a time of 1:49.95.
  • The Red Hawks also took the top-three finishes in the 50 free. Leading the way for the win was BOBBY FREECE, who clocked a 21.88. Terzo touched the wall second (22.46), followed by NICHOLAS KIPP in third (23.10).
  • The performance of the night came from Salvatori in the 400 IM. He not only won the event, but broke the pool record when he clocked a time of 4:14.00. Montclair also saw the other top sports with Salek finishing second (4:30.91) and Bedoya placing third (4:32.51).
  • Woods secured the win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.81. ADRIAN GONZALEZ touched the wall second (2:02.92), and JARED GAYNOR placed third (2:02.92).

  • "Some very impressive swims tonight. The highlight of the night was obviously MICHAEL SALVATORI breaking the 400 IM pool record, which was held by one of his coaches (Jarret Driever)." Head Coach Brian McLaughlin.

  • Montclair State University will be on the road for the rest of the season, starting with TCNJ on Saturday, January 24, at 1:00 p.m.
