Galloway, NJ – The Montclair State University Men's Soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to nine games on Saturday afternoon, edging Stockton 2-1 on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (11-2-1, 3-0-1 NJAC) fell behind in the 10th minute, as an interchange play from the Ospreys along the far touch line led to a through ball that generated a run towards the edge of the box. Montclair looked for the equalizer immediately after, as CARLOS BEDOYA ripped a shot that had to be collected towards the top right corner of goal by the home keeper.
  • Stockton continued to play on the front foot over the ensuing five minutes, tallying a pair of shots on goal that had to be saved by PIERRE SOUMEILLANT. As the stanza approached the 30-minute mark, each side notched a shot that went out left before the visitors found the equalizer in the 31st minute. TOMAS MONTEIRO won possession at midfield, wove through multiple defenders, and toe-poked a ball through to JOSH VIRGIL, who slipped a left-footed shot through the keeper to bring the teams even going into halftime.
  • Montclair came out of the break with a shot in the opening two minutes from Bedoya, with the defender notching another in the 58th minute that had to be saved by the Ospreys. Seven minutes later, the visitors found the go-ahead strike, as THOMAS PUGLIESE launched the ball on a throw-in from the far side of the field that went off the head of a Stockton defender, centering the ball at the edge of the box. As the ball settled, SEBASTIAN LAPCZYNSKI rocketed a right-footed volley past the keeper to push Montclair in front.
  • The Red Hawks looked to put the game away in the 68th minute on a shot from JOHN CAREY that was parried out of play for a corner kick by the keeper. 11 minutes later, TYLER DIAZ looked to do the same, with his shot being collected bottom center from the Ospreys. With the Montclair back line remaining stout, KENET LOPEZ tallied the final shot on goal of the day in the 86th minute, with Stockton only able to notch one final attempt that sailed over the top of the net in the 90th minute to seal the road victory for the Red Hawks.
