Women's Soccer Battles Ramapo to 2-2 Draw

Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State University Women's Soccer team battled Ramapo to a 2-2 draw on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (9-3-2, 3-2-1 NJAC) began the night on the front foot, tallying a pair of shots over the opening five minutes, with the latter being a shot towards the bottom right corner of goal from KAYLEE LAUBER. Over the ensuing five minute stretch, SHANNON MULLINS recorded a pair of shots, with SAMIRA LUKOVIC also seeing an attempt stopped by the Ramapo keeper towards the top left post. After MARY LANE rang a shot off the woodwork in the 13th minute, the freshman gathered the ball and slotted a feed to LAUREN VINELLA for a goal to push the visitors in front.
  • Montclair continued to push on the front foot as the first half went on, as Vinella and Lane each saw shots on goal stopped by the Roadrunners. Ramapo's first shot on goal came in the 35th minute, as MACKENZIE SIBELLO scooped up a shot aimed towards the bottom center portion of the frame. The home side was able to equalize right before the half on an unassisted marker to bring the teams level at the break.
  • Coming out of halftime, Ramapo jumped ahead 2-1 in the 50th minute on a goal off a corner kick that was redirected in with a header. Lauber answered with a shot on goal shortly after that was saved towards the bottom left corner of the frame. The equalizer for the Red Hawks came in the 72nd minute on a strike from Mullins. Montclair pushed to find the go-ahead goal over the remaining 18 minutes, recording four shots on frame, but all were stopped by Ramapo as the home side sealed a 2-2 draw between the two teams.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • The goal for Vinella was her fourth of the season, with Lane notching her fourth assist and 10th overall goal contribution of her freshman campaign.
  • Mullins increased her season goal total to six, including two over her last three games. Her six goals are tied for the fourth-most in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, appearing in the least amount of games among that group.
  • Sibello notched a save in goal for the Red Hawks.
  • Montclair held a 22-10 advantage in shots, including a 13-3 edge in shots on goal.
FROM THE FIELD

"This wasn't our best night, but we did well to fight through adversity and get a point. We know that this result will make the remaining NJAC games even more important, but I have learned to never count out this group." - Head Coach Pat Naughter
