Women's Soccer Powers Past Kean, 4-0

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University Women's Soccer team surged past Kean 4-0 on Wednesday night at MSU Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (10-3-2, 4-2-1 NJAC) tallied an early shot on frame in the eighth minute on a rip from SOPHIA ORELLANA from the far edge of the box, with the Montclair back line blocking Kean's first shot of the night two minutes after. In the 13th minute, EMMA EDWARDS generated a quality chance by lofting in a shot from well outside the box that was punched away by the Kean keeper. Five minutes later, the home side broke through for the opening goal, as KAYLEE LAUBER collected the ball off a throw-in, turned past a defender, and tucked a feed into the box for MARY LANE. The striker made a move towards goal and sent a left-footed shot into the back of the net.
  • Kean looked for the leveler over the next ten minutes, recording a trio of shots, including a pair that had to be saved by MACKENZIE SIBELLO. The Red Hawks would double their advantage in the 28th minute, as a scramble at the near post off a corner kick led to SHANNON MULLINS collecting possession right in front of goal. The midfielder slotted a pass across frame to Lane, who sent a shot past the keeper for her second goal of the night. The visitors notched a pair of shots over the next 10 minutes, with Lane seeing one final attempt of the half saved in the 41st minute to keep the score at 2-0 going into halftime.
  • Montclair came out of the break with an offensive barrage, putting four shots on goal over the first five minutes with two from LAUREN VINELLA along with one from Lauber and IZZY MATOS. The Red Hawks tightened up defensively, not allowing a shot as they continued to generate offensive opportunities as Lauber narrowly missed the top of the crossbar as the game crossed the hour mark. Shortly after, the striker added another look on goal, seeing a shot collected by the Kean keeper in the 64th minute to maintain the margin at two.
  • The Red Hawks added to their lead two minutes later, as Lane played a ball into the box that was headed down by a Kean defender to Mullins right in front of goal. The midfielder flicked a point-blank shot with her right foot past the keeper to nudge the margin to three. Montclair tacked on their fourth of the night in the 68th minute, as Orellana sent a throw-in from the near touch line to Lauber, who turned past a defender and centered the ball from the edge of the box to Mullins for a one-time right-footed shot towards the left post. Montclair allowed one shot the rest of the way, sealing a clean sheet victory at home.
