#13 Men's Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to 14; Tops William Paterson 3-0

Wayne, NJ – The #13 Montclair State University Men's Soccer team blanked William Paterson 3-0 on Wednesday night to extend their unbeaten streak to 14 games to close out the 2026 regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (15-2-2, 7-0-2 NJAC) absorbed some early pressure from the Pioneers, as the home side rocketed a shot off the crossbar in the third minute. Shortly after, they recorded a pair of shots on goal that were both collected by PIERRE SOUMEILLANT. In the ninth minute, the Montclair keeper created the first scoring chance of the night for the visitors, launching a ball from the other side of midfield to TOMAS MONTEIRO, who flicked a header immediately towards the edge of the box. TYLER DIAZ surged to the ball, launching a right-footed one-time shot underneath the keeper to push the Red Hawks in front.
  • Monteiro searched for one of his own shortly after, slotting a low shot towards the left post that was stopped by the Pioneers keeper. Neither side would tally an attempt over the ensuing ten minutes, leading to a rip from CARLOS BEDOYA towards the crossbar that ended in another save for William Paterson. The Red Hawks flipped onto the front foot for the next stretch of the stanza, with JOSH VIRGIL recording a shot on goal in the 27th minute that was parried away by the home side. Both teams would notch a shot in the half's waning moments, leaving Montclair on top by one going into the break.
  • Both sides stood tall defensively over the opening 15 minutes of the second stanza, with only a pair of shots being recorded, both by the visitors. In the 61st minute, Monteiro was taken down in the box as he went to turn towards goal, leading to a penalty kick goal rocketed towards the top bar by SEBASTIAN LAPCZYNSKI to double the lead for the Red Hawks. Montclair notched a pair of shots over the 15 minutes before they struck for the final marker of the night, as JAYDEN WESLEY maneuvered through the left side of the box and sent a left-footed rip that took a deflection to LOGAN NENO for a tap-in goal in front of the net. The Red Hawks did not allow a shot the remainder of the night, closing out the regular season with their fourth consecutive win.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Montclair finished league play unbeaten for the first time since 2023 and the ninth time in program history.
  • The goal for Diaz was his third of the season, with Monteiro notching his NJAC-leading ninth assist. He has recorded a goal contribution in five of his last six games and has amassed a league-leading 23 for the year.
  • Lapczynski has scored a goal in five of Montclair's last six games and has collected seven for the season. The defender has converted 10 of 11 penalty kicks in his three-year collegiate career.
  • Neno notched his sixth goal of the campaign, having scored in four-straight contests, with Wesley picking up his second assist of the year.
  • Soumeillant recorded his third career assist and second of the season on Montclair's opening goal. The sophomore tallied a pair of saves between the posts along with his 14th victory and sixth clean sheet of 2026.
  • Montclair outshot William Paterson 13-4 for the night, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. It marked the 10th time this season in which the Red Hawks have held an opponent to two or fewer shots on frame.
  • The Red Hawks rank second in the nation in goals with 66 across 19 games, outsourcing opponents with a plus-55 goal differential. Montclair has scored 24 more goals than the next-highest NJAC program, and has accounted for over 20 percent of the total goals scored in the 10-team conference.
  • Montclair has amassed 11 clean sheets this season, sitting atop the NJAC and ranking tied for third in the nation.
FROM THE FIELD

"Happy to close out the regular season with a solid road win. We were able to create some opportunities early and found a pair of goals in the second half to help seal it. I thought we did a good job defensively, especially in the second half to not allow a shot. We'll rest and recover and prepare for the NJAC Tournament next week." - Head Coach Todd Tumelty
