Salvatori Leads Men’s Swimming & Diving on Final Day of NJAC Championships; Breaks 200 Backstroke Record

Hampton, VA – Montclair State University men's swimming and diving graduate student MICHAEL SALVATORI finished off the NJAC's on a high note, breaking the 200-backstroke record to lead the Red Hawks on the final day of the NJAC Championships on Sunday. Montclair finished seventh with 532.5 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The final day started with the 1650 free. VINCENT TERZO led the way with a 14th-place finish of 16:41.48. ALEX PASQUINI didn't fall far behind him, notching 16th with a time of 16:58.27.
  • Salvatori's 200 back record came in the consolation finals, where he outraced the heat with a time of 1:51.11. ANDREW PEARCE and DARREN ROCKWELL competed in the bonus finals, where Pearce finished 19th (1:57.11) and Rockwell notched 22nd (1:58.69).
  • The 100 free for Montclair was led by BOBBY FREECE, who qualified for the consolation finals and touched the wall 15th overall with a time of 46.89. MICHAEL WOJCIECHOWICZ swam in the bonus finals and finished with a time of 48.50 for 24th place.
  • FILIP SALEK was the lone men's swimmer to qualify for the 200 breast. He swam the bonus finals and clocked a 2:09.87 for 20th place.
  • PETER JARZAB qualified himself for the championship finals in the 200 fly. He finished in sixth place with a time of 1:52.50. MASON WOODS earned a 16th-place finish (1:57.40) in the consolation finals, while JARED GAYNOR placed himself 22nd overall (1:59.59) in the bonus finals.
  • The championships were wrapped up with the 400 free relay. The quartet of Freece, Wojciechowicz, Terzo, and Jarzab closed out the meet with a fifth-place finish of 3:08.31.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Salvatori broke the 200 back record he set last year of 1:51.89. He finishes his career with four individual records and one relay record.
