Women's Lacrosse Improves to 3-0 on the Road; Defeats Farmingdale State 17-8

Farmingdale, NY The Montclair State University Women's Lacrosse team continued its strong week with a 17-8 offensive surge over Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (3-1) broke the scoring open 10 seconds into the afternoon, as LEXI ROBINSON found the back of the net after recording a draw control. Farmingdale State equalized within the minute, but the visitors retook the lead shortly after on an unassisted marker from CARA MCCARTNEY. At the 11:18 mark, Robinson slotted a pass to KAELEY SEK, who doubled the advantage for Montclair. The Rams searched for another offensive opportunity, with JOEY GROTKOPF tallying a pair of saves before KYRA MORENA increased Montclair's lead to three with five and a half minutes on the clock. The Red Hawks notched one more marker in the frame off the stick of NORAH MONAGHAN to make the score 5-1 after 15 minutes.
  • Montclair continued its offensive flurry into the second period, with McCartney kicking off the run with a goal off a pass from Monaghan. Morena and Monaghan combined for two of the game's next three goals to push the Red Hawks in front 8-2 with just under nine minutes to go. Following another stop from Grotkopf, Montclair capitalized on a man-up opportunity with a marker from KAYDRIANA TOLEDO. As the half came to a close, AMRA LUKOVIC found the back of the net with 13 seconds left to push Montclair into double figures, 10-2, at the break.
  • Coming out of halftime, the Red Hawks notched another pair of goals from Lukovic to increase their lead to double-digits after 90 seconds. With the quarter approaching its midway point, Farmingdale State broke through with a goal and would score another after Robinson found Sek for another strike. At the 2:20 mark of the quarter, Robinson scored on a man-up opportunity to push the lead back to double-digits. The home side scored one more time in the third with 63 seconds remaining to make the margin nine going into the final stanza.
  • After a scoreless five minutes to kick off the fourth quarter, Farmingdale State converted a man-up chance of their own and would add another with 5:59 remaining in the contest. 90 seconds later, Monaghan scored a free-position goal and slotted a feed to Robinson on the game's next possession to nudge the lead back to nine. The Rams recorded their final goal of the afternoon with 2:15 on the clock, as the Red Hawks would close out the day with a strike from McCartney with under one minute remaining to seal the victory.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Monaghan tallied her second hat trick of the year while finishing with a season-best four assists to help orchestrate the offense for the Red Hawks.
  • Robinson recorded a season-high in points, registering three goals and three assists. 
  • Lukovic and McCartney rounded out the group that notched a hat trick.
  • Grotkopf accumulated five saves en route to the victory in goal for the Red Hawks.
  • Montclair held a 32-24 advantage in shots, including 22-14 on goal. The Red Hawks defense helped force 20 turnovers from the Rams.
  • The Red Hawks have won three out of four games to begin a season for the first time since 2021.
