Montclair, NJ. – The Montclair State University women's flag football team (6-1) saw its offense explode for big plays today. They had four touchdowns of over 20-yards today, which propelled them to a 59-6 victory against Mount Saint Mary on Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Knights got the ball first, but tossed an interception to GIANNAMARIE GREENHALGH on the second play of the game. Her interception gave Montclair possession at the MSM 13, where EMILY DEL ROSARIO took the first carry and bounced it outside for a touchdown and put Montclair up 6-0.
  • Following a Knights' punt, HADDIYAH BELL uncorked a deep ball to SERENITY MUHAMMED and connected for a 40-yard touchdown and scored the extra point for a 13-0 lead.
  • In a drive that went into the second quarter, the Knights put together a solid drive of 10 plays and 37 yards, but were halted at the MSU 23. The Red Hawks countered with a nine-play, 51-yard drive that was capped off with a seven-yard score from GENEVIEVE FARA to take a 19-0 lead, one they took into the second half.
  • On the first possession of the third quarter, Bell fired another deep ball downfield that fell right into the arms of a striding Greenhalgh for a 51-yard touchdown catch and pushed the Red Hawk lead to 26-0.
  • NYLEA UNDERWOOD made her presence felt on the next two drives for Montclair. She scored a 22-yard run on her first carry of the game and then came back for a 17-yard scamper on the next possession that made the score 39-0.
  • After another Red Hawk stop on defense, they scored again on a 10-play, 48-yard drive that was finished off with a 5-yard touchdown run by SOFIA DEL GROSSO.
  • Mount Saint Mary finally broke through for a score. An 8-play, 66-yard drive was finished off with a 22-yard touchdown reception and put the Knights on the board, 52-6.
  • LILY AGBANA finished off a high-octane day for the offense. She carried the ball two times consecutive times before she got her third carry, which she took and weaved through multiple Knight defenders for a 44-yard score that capped off a 59-6 victory for Montclair.
