Atlanta, GA – Behind a pair of first half goals, the Montclair State University Men's Soccer team took down Berry College 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to close out its weekend in Georgia.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Red Hawks (4-2-0) used the opening trip up the field to look for the breakthrough strike, as JAKE WINCHOCK sent an attempt on frame that was collected by the Vikings. Berry countered four minutes later, as PIERRE SOUMEILLANT had to save a shot to the lower left post. Shortly after a corner kick a minute later, the Red Hawks piled on two more shots on goal, with IVAN GARCIA adding two of his own in the 14th and 17th minute to continue the offensive barrage.
• Montclair found the opening marker in the 23rd minute, as CARLOS BEDOYA served in a free kick from the far side of the field that was headed immediately from the near edge of the box by ROBBY DASLER back towards the far post. After a shot from the Vikings rang the right woodwork, the Red Hawks countered with their second goal of the day in the 31st minute. JOSH VIRGIL collected a pass on the far side just outside of the box, maneuvered past defenders, and sent a centering ball towards the front of goal that was flicked in by LOGAN NENO towards the near post.
• Berry cut the deficit in half in the 40th minute on a corner kick that led to three consecutive headers, with the final being a shot from the back post that found the back of the net. Coming out of the break, the Red Hawks tallied a pair of shots across the first 13 minutes, but could not add to the advantage. The two sides tightened up defensively for the remainder of the afternoon, with neither team recording a shot attempt over the final 32 minutes of regulation.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

• Dasler's goal marked the first of his collegiate career, with Bedoya picking up his team-leading third assist of the campaign and ninth of his two-year career.
• Neno's goal was his first of the year and seventh of his Montclair tenure, as Virgil notched his second assist of the season and fifth of his career.
• Soumeillant collected a save in his third win of the season in goal for the Red Hawks.
• The Red Hawks outshot the Vikings 16-4 on the day, holding Berry without an attempt in the second half.
• Montclair has allowed just nine shots over its last four games and has outshot its opponents 131-33 on the year.
• The Red Hawks have won four of their first six games for the second-straight season and third time over the last four years.
