Swarthmore, PA – A pair of late second half goals fueled a strong road victory for the Montclair State University Men's Soccer team as it downed Swarthmore 3-1 on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Red Hawks (5-2-0) tallied a pair of attempts on frame across the opening ten minutes of competition, with TOMAS MONTEIRO and TYLER DIAZ seeing shots stopped by the Swarthmore keeper. Shortly after, BRANDEN CADIGAN won possession at midfield following an attempt from the home side to reverse the field on the far flank. The defender sent a header to KEVIN CONTRERAS along the touch line, who made a run towards the edge of the box. He chipped a ball into the box that was immediately headed into the far post past the keeper by Monteiro.
• Montclair's defense blocked the Garnet's first shot attempt in the 15th minute, as Monteiro attempted to double the advantage nine minutes after towards the top right of goal. On a free kick from outside the box in the 31st minute, Swarthmore generated their best attempt on goal in the stanza that was parried away by PIERRE SOUMEILLANT. The Montclair keeper notched another stop three minutes later to help maintain the advantage for the visitors going into the break.
• Diaz rocketed a shot on frame shortly after the restart, with Swarthmore finding the equalizer in the 50th minute on a low centering pass from the far edge of the box that skipped towards the far post for a shot into the net. The Red Hawks immediately looked for the go-ahead strike, as JAKE WINCHOCK had a shot saved within the same minute. As the visiting defense tightened up, the Garnet did not record another shot the remainder of the night.
• Montclair found its breakthrough goal in the the 79th minute, as CARLOS BEDOYA curled in an olimpico off a corner kick from the near side to the far post. The Red Hawks put the game away in the final minute, as Monteiro played the ball out of the far corner after a throw-in to GABE RODRIGUEZ, who notched a one-touch pass to Contreras. The junior launched a shot past the keeper to push the advantage to two, which the visitors would seal seconds later.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

• Monteiro tallied his third game with multiple goal contributions this season, finishing with his team-leading seventh goal along with his second assist of the campaign.
• Contreras notched his third career game with a pair of goal contributions, tallying his third goal and first assist of 2026.
• The game-winning goal for Bedoya marked the first strike of his collegiate career. Rodriguez tallied his first assist of the year on Montclair's final goal of the night.
• Soumeillant collected a pair of saves and his fourth victory of the season between the pipes for the Red Hawks.
• Montclair outshot Swarthmore 21-7, including a 13-2 edge in the second half. Through seven games, the Red Hawks have allowed just 5.7 shots per game and only 20 shots on goal for the entire season. Their five goals allowed are the third-fewest in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
