Field Hockey Falls to Arcadia, 2-0

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University field hockey (3-5) hosted Arcadia (5-5) for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening, where the Red Hawks fell to the Knights by a score of 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Arcadia strung three corners in the first four minutes of the game, but Montclair's defense kept them from getting off a shot. The Red Hawks' first corner came with 7:49 on the scoreboard, and they were kept without a shot. Both teams traded possessions but were unable to register shots, and the scoreless game went into the second frame.
  • The first shot of the game came off an Arcadia stick. The shot was tipped off a bullet pass from the top right portion of the circle and hit its mark in the lower left portion of the cage to give Arcadia the lead at 16:00. Three minutes later, Montclair saw a series of penalty corners. BELLA HEISER had her shot blocked, and EMMA BIANCO put a nice attempt on cage, but had it denied by the Knights' goalkeeper. The game once again went into a stalemate, with neither team getting another shot off the rest of the quarter, and Arcadia took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • Two minutes into the third period, the Knights got a shot off that traveled wide. At 35:52, AVA SCURRY attempted to arc a shot over the defense and the goalkeeper, but it just went over the goal. SYDNEY WHITE made a pair of crucial saves down the stretch to keep it a one-score game. Avery DiPetro had a tip-in chance in the final minute of the quarter, but had it saved. The game went 1-0 into the final frame.
  • The Knights extended their lead to 2-0 just over a minute into the fourth. White made an initial save off a shot right in front of the cage, but the Arcadia player collected the save and pushed a ball around White for the goal. White stayed stout the rest of the way, but the offense was unable to find a goal. The lone shot of the fourth for Montclair came off the stick of NATALIE SURMA and went wide.
