Volleyball Earns Clean Sweep of Paul Smith’s at Red Dragon Invitational

Oneonta, NY – The Montclair State University volleyball team (3-0) saw a quick turnaround following its 3-1 win against Rochester but took care of business with a clean 3-0 sweep of Paul Smith's (0-3) on Friday afternoon at the Red Dragon Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair owned the first set. ADDI SYMONS earned two service aces for the first pair of points before the Bobcats scored. The Red Hawks scored nine of the next 10 points, which included three kills by KASEY TRZASKA to hold an 11-2 lead. Following both teams exchanging a pair of points each, Montclair rattled off 13 of the next 14 points, including the final 10 points of the set to secure a 25-5 game one win. BREANNA CRAIG had three service aces and two kills in that final run, while LEAH ROBLES buried two kills.
  • The Red Hawks jumped out to a 5-1 advantage to start the second set, seeing kills from Robles, SOFIA DIPROFIO, and LILY THOMAS. Paul Smith's clawed back to cut the lead to 6-4 before Montclair generated its best run of the set, scoring nine of the next 10. DiProfio headlined that run with two kills. The Bobcats tried to fight back, but the Red Hawks were able to fend off any true rally attempt and sealed set two by a score of 25-12.
  • Set three mirrored set one for Montclair, who jumped out to a 9-1 start thanks in part to Robles, who had a kill and three service aces. The Bobcats scored the next two points, then a 10-1 Red Hawks run pushed them to a 20-4 lead. A bad set put another point on the board for Paul Smith's, and Montclair countered, taking the final five points of the match to secure its second 25-5 set win and complete the sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Both Trzaska and Robles shared the team lead in kills with seven in the match. Trzaska led the second match in service aces with five service aces to Robles' three.
  • BREANNA CRAIG finished with a 1.000 attacking percentage, putting down a kill on all five attempts.
  • Symons was the match leader in assists with 18.
