Also returning for his seventh season Ron Gavazzi returns to his role as the coach of the MSU defensive backs. Since taking over in 2005, Gavazzi secondary has been one of the NJAC's best against the pass and has produced two All-Americans in Derrick Simmons (2005 and 2006) and Dominique Dixon, who became the first Red Hawk to be named AFCA All-American in 13 years in 2009. A graduate of William Paterson University with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Gavazzi came to MSU after serving as the defensive coordinator at Bayley Ellard High School helping the Bishops to the NJSIAA Non-Public 1 semifinals in 2004. Gavazzi began his coaching career at Don Bosco Tech (Paterson, NJ) in 2000 serving as an assistant in both football and baseball. In 2001 he moved on to Bayley Ellard becoming the Bishops head baseball coach while also serving as an assistant with the football team. A Physical Edication teacher at Montclair High School, Gavazzi also serves as the Mounties head baseball coach in the Spring.
