Sean Rossi is entering his eighth season on the sidelines at Montclair State and fifth as the Associate Head Coach.
During his time at Montclair, Rossi was part of the 2024-25 and 2025-26 NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year, guiding one of the best three-point shooting teams in the nation to their third NCAA Tournament appearance in four years. The Red Hawks have won 118Â games dating back to 2019. Over the past four seasons, Montclair has ranked third in the nation in assists per game and three-point makes per game and seventh in points per game.Â
The 2025-26 campaign marked one of the best offensive seasons in program history, as the Red Hawks led the nation in assists per game (21.5, a program record), three-pointers made per game (13.3, also a program record), and effective field goal percentage (58.5 percent), while ranking second in three-point percentage (40.3 percent, a program record). Montclair also set new program-bests in points (2,571), total assists (603), and three-pointers made (371). The Red Hawks have made 1,577 shots from beyond the arc dating back to the 2019-20 season, with all of those full campaigns (excluding the COVID-19 shortened year) resembling the top six in program history.
During the 2024-25 season, Montclair ranked third in the nation in three-point makes (343) with Jacob Morales leading the country with 108 for the year. In three of the last four seasons, the Red Hawks have connected on 300 or more three-pointers, the only times in program history they have reached that mark.
Rossi has been part of the staff that has led Montclair to 20-win seasons in three of their last four seasons, including a program record 25 wins during the 2025-26 season. That run marked the first time in program history that the team was ranked atop the nation, as well as in the history of the NJAC. The Red Hawks are one of two schools to ever be ranked number one in the Top 25 Poll, with the other being Seton Hall 73 years prior. Montclair has won back-to-back NJAC Regular Season Championships, with their 58 regular season wins in league play being the most over a four year stretch in program history.
As an Assistant at Moravian, Rossi helped guide the Greyhounds to two 20 win seasons and back to back Landmark Conference championships (2017-18 & 2018-19) as well as the first NCAA tournament win in Moravian College history in the 2018-19 season.
Prior to Moravian, Rossi was the graduate assistant men's basketball coach at Misericordia University. Rossi helped lead the Cougars to two consecutive MAC Freedom Conference playoff appearances while winning the MAC Freedom championship in the 2016-2017 season and finishing the year with an overall record of 20-8.
Before joining the staff at Misericordia, Rossi spent the 2014-2015 season as the head men's basketball coach at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School where he led the team to a 20-5 record. Prior to his stint at West Point, Rossi spent one season as the assistant men's basketball coach at Keystone College where he helped the team to their sixth consecutive CSAC playoff appearance.
As a player, Rossi was a four-year starter at Ithaca, Rossi led the nation in assists his first three seasons and is the NCAA Division III all-time leader with 957 assists. Rossi finished his career with 1,147 points and was a D3hoops.com second-team All-American honoree as a senior. A team captain for both his junior and senior seasons, Rossi led the Bombers to 75 wins in his career and two straight Empire 8 Conference titles (2010-11 & 2012-13) while leading the team to the Sweet 16 of the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Rossi earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in management from Ithaca and an MBA with a concentration in Sport Management from Misericordia University.
