Gilbert Sanders is in his fourth season with the Red Hawks and assists with the MSU hurdlers. A standout hurdler at Huntington High School in New York during the 1960s, Sanders moved on to Colorado State University where he went undefeated during his freshman season. He then joined the United States Marine Corps where he was a crew chief for U-H 34 Helicopters in addition to being meritoriously decorated for service in Vietnam. Sanders also competed in the hurdles while with the Marines earning All-American Military Serivce honors in addition to being a member of the Quantico Marine Football Team. From 1990-1992, Sanders competed forthe Long Island Pioneer Club where he took part in the Masters Short Hurdler. Sanders, one of only 40 students nationally to gain transfer admission to Harvard as a National Merit Scholar in 1971, earned a degree from St. Peter's College in 1985 as a Neuroscience Nursing major and in 2003 was a student at Columbia University's Post-Graduate Continuing Medical Education Program.
