Todd Tumelty enters his 15th season as the head coach of the Montclair State men’s soccer program. The former Red Hawk has turned MSU into one of the top teams not only in the New Jersey Athletic Conference but in all of Division III.

The all-time winningest coach in program history, Tumelty has guided MSU to five NJAC Championships during his tenure as well as 10 berths in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship, including a Final Four appearance in 2011. His teams have reached the “Sweet 16” of the tournament on five occasions and have been to the “Elite 8” five times.

  • One of two coaches in MSU history to reach the NCAA Tournament in each of their first six seasons (Norm Schoenig, baseball)
  • Became the all-time winningest coach on August 31, 2019 surpassing Brian Sentowski with his 140th career victory in a 7-0 win over St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn).

Educational-Personal
  • Graduated from Montclair State in 2007 with his degree in Physical Education
  • Played for the Red Hawks from 2003-06 and was a three-year starter as well as team captain.
  • Helped MSU the NJAC Championship in 2006, Montclair’s first in 17 years as well as the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. Montclair State advanced to the “Sweet 16”, finished the year at 20-1-1, including a perfect 9-0 mark in conference play.
  • Named First-Team All-NJAC in 2006 and selected to the NSCAA Metro All-Region Second Team.
  • Spent the 2010 season as an assistant with the Red Hawk women’s team
  • Served as head coach of the Parsippany Predators U-16 Boys team leading the club to the President’s Cup semifinals in 2009.
