Katie Sire

Katie Sire is in her sixth season with Montclair State and her first as the Associate Head Coach. She will also serve as recruiting coordinator in addition to her coaching duties.

In 2024-25, Sire was part of the group that was named the NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Red Hawks to a 24-5 record, an NJAC Championship, and the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

One of the all-time great players in Montclair State history, Sire finished her career ranked in the Top 10 in seven categories including No. 4 on the all-time scoring list with 1,758 points. She ranks 7th all-time in scoring average (14.7), fifth in field goals (682) and percentage (.467), sixth in free throws (310) and seventh in free-throw percentage (.752) and rebounds (954). As a freshman in 2015, Sire helped Montclair State to the NCAA Division III Final Four and a third-place finish as he Red Hawks recorded a 31-2 record, setting the single-season mark for victories. Sire was part of four consecutive NJAC Championship squads (2015-18) and led MSU to three more NCAA Tournaments including a run to the Sweet 16 in 2018.

A three-time All-NJAC First-Team selection, Sire captured numerous awards throughout her career and was named the league’s Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. She was chosen as the Atlantic Region Player of the Year by D3hoops.com her final two seasons and earned spots on the organization’s All-America squad claiming First-Team honors in her senior year. Sire was twice named All-America by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and took home the NJAC Female Athlete of the Year award in 2018.

In her final year with the Red Hawks, Sire averaged 21.7 points, (ninth in Division III) along with 8.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting .511 from the floor and .821 at the free throw line. She scored over 600 points becoming the first player to accomplish that since Carol Blazejowski in 1978 and she was the first MSU women's player to average over 20 points in a season since Kim Wilson in 1991.  A six-time NJAC Player of the Week honoree that year, Sire led the league in scoring and was fourth in rebounding and field goal percentage, second in free-throw percentage and seventh in steals. She registered eight double-double performances and scored 15 or more points 25 times with 18 contests of 20-plus points, including a career-best 31 against Rutgers-Camden in the regular-season finale on February 14. Sire became the fifth player in program history to surpass 1,700 points in a career.
