Jhovanny Olivares joined Montclair State University in August 2024 as the Sports Performance Coach.

In his first year, he has contributed to the development of student-athletes and the overall development of the University’s Strength & Conditioning Program. His responsibilities have included creating and managing the Montclair State University Strength & Conditioning Internship, overseeing two strength and conditioning facilities - Panzer Fitness Center and Women’s Performance Center, and managing fitness center operations, including hiring and supervising of student staff. He is also responsible for designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for Football, Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Swim & Dive and Track & Field, along with managing inventory and equipment purchases for the department, including the acquisition of ten new weightlifting platforms and the integration of sports science technology such as the OVR Sprint and OVR Jump systems.

Prior to joining Montclair, Olivares served as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at SUNY Brockport. There, he programmed and led training for Men’s Lacrosse, Wrestling, Men’s Basketball, and Track & Field (Sprints/Jumps), while assisting with Football. He integrated velocity-based training technologies (Rep One and Vitruve) and used Plyomat testing to track performance metrics such as vertical jump, reactive strength index (RSI), and ground contact time.

Alongside SUNY Brockport, he also led and assisted high school training programs including: Fairport High School, Gates Chili and Greece High Schools through Next Level Strength & Conditioning in Fairport, NY. At Next Level Strength & Conditioning he supported the development of middle school, high school, collegiate and professional athletes, including members of the Rochester Americans (AHL) and Rochester Knighthawks (NLL). 

His coaching foundation includes internships with Syracuse University Football and the SUNY Brockport Athletic Weight Room. Olivares holds a B.S. in Exercise Science with a concentration in Strength & Conditioning from SUNY Brockport and is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA. He is also CPR/AED certified through the American Red Cross.
