Carlon Pitches Red Hawks Past Anderson in NCAA World Series

Pallino Homers as Montclair Wins Second Straight

Battle Creek, MI - The Red Hawks got another tremendous pitching performance by freshman JOHN CARLON and junior JOHN PALLINO went deep for a solo home run in the eighth as Montclair State defeated Anderson University of Indiana, 5-1 at C.O. Brown Stadium on Saturday evening.

Carlon, who is now 5-0 this season, pitched the fist seven inning, giving up the one run in the fourth on a ground out. He held Anderson in check with six hits, three strikeouts, and did not walk a batter. Anderson entered the World Series with a batting average of .340.

Carlon got some help from senior righthander FRANK DIPPOLD, who came in with runners on second and third and no one out in the eighth inning, inducing a strikeout, walk, strikeout and fly out to leave both runners stranded, and earn his eighth save of the season, a new Montclair State record.

Offensively, Pallino opened up a 2-1 game in the top of the eighth with a leadoff solo home run, his 12th of the season extending the lead to two runs. The home was the first hit for Pallino since he was injured back in the regional tournament when he crashed into the outfield wall, and has been the Montclair DH for the two games in the tournament. The junior can barely run as he has a severely bruised right hip and thigh, making it impossible for him to play the field.

MSC added two more runs on RBIs by JASON SCAVALLA and HAROLD VANDUNK in the same inning to take a 5-1 lead. Dippold finished off the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
