Red Hawk Bats Stay Hot, Down Wilmington for 7th Straight

Ellerson Homers, Drives in Three

Little Falls, NJ – Sophomore shortstop BRIAN ELLERSON homered and drove in three runs leading Montclair State to a 15-2 victory against Wilmington College (DE) at Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday.

Junior third baseman CRAIG CONWAY and senior designated hitter GEORGE GALLAGHER each drove in two runs as the Red Hawks (10-2-1) extended their winning streak to seven games with the victory.

Wilmington took a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Warren Rivell scored on a wild pitch however Montclair State erased that deficit with two runs in the fourth. Senior first baseman FRANK FRANCIA doubled home Gallagher for the first run with an error allowing Ellerson to come home for a 2-1 Montclair lead.

The Red Hawks added to the lead in the fifth scoring five times. Junior center fielder FRANK LONGO plated two with a base hit before Ellerson launched a three-run homer putting MSU up, 7-1.

Leading 7-2 in the sixth, Montclair tacked on six runs to blow the game open. Conway had an RBI double with Gallagher added two RBI on a base hit to left-center field. SCOTT CLARK doubled to left scoring two runs with Wurst capping the scoring on an RBI single making the score, 13-2.

ADAM CERMINARO and Conway drew bases-loaded walks in the eighth for the last two Red Hawk runs.

Senior right hander GREG BELSON picked up his third win in as many decisions. Belson went the first six innings allowing two runs and five hits, striking out four and walking one. COREY HAMMAN, KEVIN RAKOWSKI-KUHLMAN and STEVE TRONGONE closed out the game with a scoreless inning each.

Conway, Gallagher, Ellerson and Clark each posted multi-hit games for the Red Hawks, who banged out 15 hits in the game.

Montclair State opens up New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Thursday, March 30. The Red Hawks head to Wayne, NJ to take on defending Mid-Atlantic Regional champion and local rival William Paterson at 3:30 pm.
