JEFF SCHRIBER each drove in three runs as Montclair State edged Division II Adelphi University, 10-8 at Campus Field on Wednesday.
Senior right-hander
GREG BELSON struck out the side in the ninth to nail down the save as the Red Hawks (14-3-1) bounced back from their first loss following a 10-game winning streak.
Schriber's two-run single in the second inning gave Montclair a 4-0 lead however a three-run homer by Henry Castilloin the third and bases-loaded walk to Dennis Banks in the fourth knotted the game.
The Red Hawks responded with three runs in the fifth to regain the lead. Frank Francis doubled in the first run and
BRIAN ELLERSON lofted a sacrifice fly.
MARC HOUSER and Frank Long pulled off a successful double steal with Longo crossing the plate giving MSU a 7-4 lead.
Adelphi got a run back in the sixth, but an RBI triple by Schriber and run-scoring single from Baran in the seventh boosted the lead to 9-5. The Panthers closed the gap to run in the eighth. Mark Speiss capped the three-run inning with a solo home run.
Baran gave Montclair State a little breathing room in the ninth soring Schriber from third on a ground out.
Belson came on and nailed down the victory, fanning the side in the ninth with all three batters going down looking.
Junior left-hander
SCOTT ALLAN (3-0) got the victory as he went the first seven innings. Jon Doyle (0-1) suffered the loss for the Panthers.
GEORGE GALLAGHER and
MARC HOUSER had two hits each for the Red Hawks, who registered 14 in the game.
Montclair goes right back to work on Thursday, April 6 returning to Yogi Berra Stadium for a 3:30 pm. NJAC contest with Rutgers-Newark.
