Little Falls, NJ – The Montclair State baseball team saw their 18-game winning streak snapped as the Red Hawks, ranked No. 2 in Division III, fell to Division Ii Millersville University on Thursday evening at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Sophomore shortstop
BRIAN ELLERSON went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the Red Hawks (31-4-1), who fell for the first time since a 6-3 setback against Rowan University on April 1.
CRAIG CONWAY homered while
FRANK LONGO went 3-for-4 with a run batted in.
The Red Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. Conway blasted a solo home run in the first with Ellerson and
MARC HOUSER collecting RBI singled in the second. Longo's run-scoring hit in the third staked Montclair to the four-run advantage.
But Millersville erupted for 10 consecutive runs, including seven in the fifth inning with three more crossing the plate in the sixth to take control of the game.
CHRIS BARAN and
DAVE WURST each doubled in a run during the sixth inning to get MSU within 10-6, however the visitors put the game out of reach in the seventh with nine runs.
Sophomore
COREY HAMMAN (5-2) took the loss for MSU.
Montclair State will be in action this weekend, May 6-7 for the Greco/Cowan Tournament at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Red Hawks will face defending Division III national champion North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday before taking on Ithaca College and Bridgewater State (MA) on Sunday.
