Women's Soccer Takes Down FDU-Florham

Upper Montclair, NJ (10/01/01) - The Montclair State University women's soccer team rebounded from its first loss of the 2001 campaign with a 6-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison at Sprague Field.

The Red Hawks, who suffered a 1-0 loss to Rowan University on Sept. 29 that snapped their eight-game unbeaten streak, scored five times in the second half this evening to defeat the visiting Devils. MSU, which enjoyed a 23-5 shot advantage tonight, improves to 7-1-2 overall, while FDU falls to 3-7-1. It was also MSU's fifth straight win against FDU since 1995.

MSU senior midfielder DANIELLE MALYSKA (Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) tallied three of MSU's five second-half goals, and also set up another as the Red Hawks broke a 1-1 halftime tie.

Freshman forwards STEPHANIE SABALIAUSKAS (Edison, NJ/Mt. St. Mary Academy) and LIZ D'ALTO (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) and junior defender SHANNON HART (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) also scored for Montclair, while sophomore midfielder JESSICA KOCH (Blackwood, NJ/Triton) posted two assists. FDU senior midfielder Carolyn Perry (Carney's Point/Penns Grove) tallied the Devils' lone goal, while junior goalkeeper Cristina Ramos (South River, NJ/South River) finished with nine saves for the visitors. Junior netminder STEPHANIE ROMANKO (N. Brunswick, NJ/N. Brunswick) had three stops for MSU in notching her seventh win this season.
