Upper Montclair, NJ (10/18/01) -- The Montclair State University field hockey team tonight won its 12th straight game, defeating visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 4-1, at Sprague Field on MSU Senior Night. The Red Hawks improve to 13-3 overall, while the Warriors fall to 10-7.
Sophomore Megan Ulicny (Edgewood, NJ/Edgewood Regional) scored two goals for MSU, while seniors
ALI BELLINO (Allendale, NJ/N. Highlands) and
LAURA POPES (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) had singles tallies for the Red Hawks.
Freshman Sharon Kilpatrick (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) recorded ECSU's lone goal. Ulicny opened the scoring at 15:52, while Bellino followed with the game-winner at 23:19 off a pass from classmate
JANEL BERTINI (Erial, NJ/Highland), extending Bertini's school record to 29 career assists. Ulicny made it 3-0 off a rush just 46 seconds later, while Popes followed with her team-leading 18th goal of the year (also a school record) at 38:10. Kilpatrick then broke the shutout at 45:13. MSU outshot ECSU, 20-4, on the night.
Prior to the game, which marked MSU's regular season home finale, the Red Hawks honored the five members of their senior class in Bellino, Bertini, Popes,
ANDREA ULICNY (Edgewood, NJ/Edgewood Regional), and
DONNA WIXTED (Cedar Brook, NJ/Paul VI).
