Upper Montclair, NJ --- The Montclair State University men's soccer team snapped a three-game winless streak with its first New Jersey Athletic Conference victory of the 2001 campaign, a 1-0 win over New Jersey City University at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Montclair improves to 6-9-2 overall (1-5-2 NJAC), while NJCU falls to 13-4 (4-4 NJAC).

ALEX LUNA (Newark, NJ/Hudson Catholic) made five saves in recording his second shutout of the season and the 22nd whitewash of his collegiate career. He made a diving save on a shot by NJCU junior Phil Tobias (Rahway, NJ/Bishop George Ahr) in the final few minutes that was targeted for the lower left-hand corner of the MSU goal. NJCU sophomore goaltender Frank Atehortua (Plainfield, NJ/Plainfield) made four saves for the Gothic Knights, who outshot the Red Hawks, 23-11, with each team collecting five shots on goal. Six NJCU players had at least two shots on the day, while MSU's Lapointe had four.
