LAURA POPES (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) each tallied a goal and an assist as Montclair State won its eighth straight game with a 5-1 victory over Eastern (PA) College at Sprague Field this afternoon.
SARAH LEVINE (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock),
ANDREA ULICNY (Edgewood, NJ/Edgewood Regional) and
DANIELLE PICINICH (Montville, NJ/Montville) each scored a goal as MSU (9-3) scored twice in the first 2:31 to extend their school-record winning streak to eight games.
Ulicny gave the Red Hawks (9-3) an early 1-0 with her third goal of the season, banging home a shot that deflected off Eagles goalkeeper MELISSA JALBERT (S. Hampton, NH/Hamilton Wenham). Popes made the lead to 2-0, 51 seconds later as she tallied her 15th goal of the year, extending her single-season mark. Eastern got back within a goal with 13:57 left in the period as DANIELLE PRESCOTT (Haddon Twp., NJ/Haddon Twp) scored off a corner from 10 yards out.
Montclair restored the lead to two goals 13 seconds into the second half as Smith punched in her third of the year on a rebound. Levine pushed the lead to 4-1 with her sixth tally, a tipped shot from the right post. Picinich added the final score with 6:18 to play.
TRISHA WINKLE (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) made three saves in goal for MSU, which outshot the Eagles (11-4), 27-6. Jalbert made 12 saves before being replaced in the second half by AMY MARK (Hershey, PA/Hershey). Mark made four saves.
