Glassboro, NJ - The Montclair State University women's basketball team dropped an 85-66 decision on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Rowan University. MSU is now 3-3 overall and 2-2 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play.
The host Profs outscored the Red Hawks, 44-25, in the second half after the two teams played to a 41-41 tie in the opening 20 minutes. Rowan took a 47-41 lead in the first 1:33 of the second half, and then held off MSU the rest of the way.
Senior guard KATHY BARBERI (Whitestone, NY) led Montclair with 21 points in becoming the first player other than junior center JASMINE BATTS (Carteret, NJ) to lead the Red Hawks in scoring in a game so far this season. Batts finished with nine points, and matched Barberi with six rebounds. MSU senior forward STEPHANIE ELLERBE (Pennsauken, NJ) posted 16 points and a team-high 12 rebounds, while junior guard ERIN SCHULTZ (West Milford, NJ) notched seven assists and classmate STEPHANIE CROLEY (Piscataway, NJ) recorded five steals.
STEPHANIE FINKE led Rowan with 22 points, making 10-of-13 free throws, while LISA GUIDE was second with 19 points. Finke also paced the Profs with 12 rebounds.
