Wurst, Baran Help MSU Sweep Bridgewater Weekend Series

Bridgewater, VA  - Senior second baseman DAVE WURST and junior right fielder CHRIS BARAN each homered as Montclair State completed a weekend sweep of Bridgewater College with an 11-4 victory at Jopson Field on Sunday.

BRIAN ELLERSON, SCOTT ALLAN and FRANK LONGO each had two runs batted in as the Red Hawks moved past the .500 mark at 6-5 with their second consecutive win.

Baran got the Red Hawks on the board two batters into the game with a solo blast. The Eagles (9-6) answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Scott Hearn doubled in a run before Chip Woody and JP Estes went back-to-back with homers putting the host team in front 3-1.

A sacrifice fly in the second by Wurst cut the deficit to a run and three more in the third gave the Red Hawks the lead for good. Longo tripled in the first two with JEFF SCHRIBER adding a sac fly for a 5-3 MSU advantage.

Ellerson pushed the lead to 6-3 in the fourth with a double and Allan's two-run single made it a five-run advantage. Wurst homered an inning later with Woody going deep for the second time in the sixth making the score at 9-4. Montclair closed out the game with two runs in the eighth on an RBI double by Ellerson and run-scoring single from KERI MORGAN.
