Montclair State Powers Past New Jersey City, 18-3

Jersey City, NJ – Senior designated hitter SCOTT ALLAN went 3-for-4 with four RBI leading Montclair State to an 18-3 victory over New Jersey City University, 18-3, at the Thomas M. Gerrity Complex on Wednesday.

Senior catcher JEFF SCHRIBER added three RBI for the Red Hawks (18-8, 8-1), winners of four straight and 12 out of their last 14 contests. The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Monday, April 23 in Jersey City.

For the ninth time this season, MSU put double digits on the scoreboard and scored in all but one inning, including a six-run first. CRAIG CONWAY plated the first run with an RBI single and Allan followed with a two-run base hit that also added another on an error for a 4-0 lead. Schriber brought home Allan with a ground out with a fielding error putting Montclair in front by six runs.

Montclair added five more in the second, starting with Allan's two-run double down the right field line. Schriber collected another run batted in with a base hit back through the middle and Wurst doubled home the final two making the score 11-0.

ADAM CERMINARO and SEAN MORRISON each drove in a run in the third and Schriber drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth extending the lead to 14-0. ANTHONY SHOVLOWSKY, ERIC CANTAGALLO and KERI MORGAN each had an RBI in the latter innings to complete MSU's scoring output.

Jonathan Thomas broke up Montclair's second straight shutout bid with a bases-clearing triple in the ninth inning.

Junior left-hander COREY HAMMAN squared his record at 5-5 on the season. Hamman allowed two hits and struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings. Ric Haas and JOSH PINE each posted a scoreless inning.

The Red Hawks remain on the road for their next game on Thursday, April 19. Montclair heads to Pomona, NJ to face Richard Stockton at 3:30 pm in the second meeting between the two this season.
MSU won the first meeting 8-6 at Yogi Berra Stadium on April 9.
