STEPHANIE SABALIAUSKAS (Edison, NJ/Mt. St. Mary Academy) scored on the final kick of the shootout as Montclair State advanced to the Championship Game of the Haverford Kickoff Tournament by knocking off Lynchburg College in a shootout, 4-3.
STEPHANIE ROMANKO (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) made 11 saves for the Red Hawks (0-0-1), who will face Haverford in the title game on Sunday, September 2nd at 3:30 p.m. Last year, Montclair dropped its opening game in the tournament to Lynchburg, 1-0.
Heading into the shootout, the score was tied at 3-3 when Romanko came up with a huge save on the final kicker as she knocked away a shot by ERIN STEEPER. Sabaliauskas then stepped to the line and fired a right footed shot past goalkeeper BETTY RICHARDSON into the upper right hand corner giving the Red Hawks the victory.
LIZ D'ALTO (Clifton, NJ/Clifton), LAUREN ROTA (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Indian Hills) and MEGHAN CARR (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) each scored in the shootout for MSU, which was outshot in the contest, 23-8.
