SARAH LEVINE scored 8:18 into overtime as Montclair State won its home opener defeating previously undefeated Wilkes, 2-1 at Sprague Field on Thursday evening.
JAMIE DONATO (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) had a goal for the Red Hawks (1-2), who outshot the Lady Colonels (4-1), 3-0 in overtime.
Montclair State had an opportunity to win the game just 34 seconds into the extra session as
LEA SMITH (Littlestown, PA/Littlestown) missed wide on a 3-on-1 breakaway. Wilkes goaltender DESIREE PODRASKY turned aside Smith again with 11:35 to play in overtime, but Levine finally broke through as she gathered a loose ball at the 20 yardline and moved in before getting off a shot that beat Podrasky to the right corner.
Donato had given MSU a 1-0 lead at 45:09 as she took a pass from Levine and slid it past Podrasky. But Wilkes would tie the game at 52:31 as KRISTIN YARRISH knocked in a shot past MSU goalkeeper
TRISHA WINKLE (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township).
Winkle finished with seven saves while Podrasky had 11. Montclair outshot Wilkes, 18-14 and held an edge in penalty corners, 18-12.
