Men's Soccer Draws with Rutgers-Newark

Upper Montclair, NJ - Senior forward DEMBA MANE (Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) of Rutgers-Newark and JEFF FIORINO (Scotch Plains, NJ/SP-Fanwood) of Montclair State each tallied a goal the Scarlet Raiders and Red Hawks played to a 1-1 overtime tie at MSU Soccer Park this afternoon. The game was the first New Jersey Athletic Conference contest for both teams.

Mane had given the Scarlet Raiders (2-1-1, 0-0-1 NJAC) the lead at the 16:31 mark as he headed in a throw in by OSWALDO SALAS (Newark, NJ/St. Benedict's) passed MSU goalkeeper ALEX LUNA (Newark, NJ/Hudson Catholic).

Montclair would draw even in the 70th minute as Fiorino scored on a header himself, knocking in a pass from MIKE JOHNSTON (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape).

The Red Hawks (2-3-1, 0-0-1 NJAC) had plenty of opportunities in the overtime periods as they outshot the Scarlet Raiders, 9-0. Freshman MATT CASWELL (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) was denied by STAFANOS KAZANTZIS (Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) in the 100th minute, and RU-N's JESUS TORRES (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) blocked a header with 1:33 left in the first overtime.

Kazantis finished with six saves, while Luna had two for MSU. Montclair outshot the Scarlet Raiders, 18-6.
