Women's Soccer Downs Rutgers-Newark for Fifth Straight Win

Newark, NJ - The Montclair State University women's soccer team (5-0-1, 1-0 NJAC) continued its winning ways with its fifth consecutive victory, defeating Rutgers-Newark by a 4-1 count on Wednesday.

The Red Hawks overcame an early deficit with four consecutive goals en route to claiming their 2001 New Jersey Athletic Conference opener.

After the host Scarlet Raiders took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Nnenna Allen just 21 minutes into the contest, Montclair freshman STEPHANIE SABALIAUSKAS (Edison, NJ/Mt. St. Mary Academy) tied the game at 25:40. Freshman SUSAN HINDS (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) then tallied two goals just over 10 minutes apart spanning the first and second halves to put MSU ahead for good. Hinds now has three goals in her last two outings.

Freshman defender GABBY WHITE (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) closed out the scoring for MSU at 52:06 off an assist from junior SHANNON HART (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East), who posted two assists for the second straight game and has six points in her last two appearances.

Junior goalkeeper STEPHANIE ROMANKO (No. Brunswick, NJ/No. Brunswick) made three saves for MSU as the Red Hawks outshot Rutgers, 28-4.
