Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Sees Win Streak Stopped by Stockton

Upper Montclair, NJ - Sophomore guard CHRISTINA MASON (Southampton, NJ/Lenape) scored 22 points and ROSINA RACHUBA (Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gateway) added 17 as Richard Stockton used a key second half run to defeat Montclair State, 68-58 in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball action at Panzer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The Ospreys (14-5, 10-2) moved a half game ahead in the NJAC standings (pending Kean's outcome against Rowan University), despite the sub-par scoring effort by leading scorer KELLI BAKANOWSKY (Gibbsboro, NJ/Eastern). Bakanowsky, who entered the game averaging 17.1 points, was held to just six on 1-of-10 shooting. However, the All-NJAC player had six assists and was a key factor in Richard Stockton's 20-4 run to open the second half.

JASMINE BATTS (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) had a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds for Montclair State (8-10, 5-7 NJAC), which had its three game winning streak snapped with the loss.

The Red Hawks held a 35-28 halftime lead, but the Ospreys erased that deficit with an 14-4 run in the first five minutes. ALLISON CALADRINO (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) sank a pair of three pointers while Rachuba and Mason each hit from long range for a 42-39 Richard Stockton lead with 14:55 left. Bakanowsky's only basket of the game pushed the lead to five and Mason scored on a four-point play to give the Ospreys a 48-39 advantage with 12:30 to play. Bakanowsky then added two foul shots to make the score 50-39, Richard Stockton's largest of the game.

Montclair would get within 57-51 with 6:56 to play as ERIN SCHULTZ (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) hit 1-of-2 free throws, but Rachuba and TAMIKA RILEY (Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) connected on back-to-back baskets to restore the lead to 61-51 with just over five minutes left.

DYETTE DILLARD (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) had 11 points for Montclair State, which shot just 25 percent in the second half (6-of-24). STEPHANIE CROLEY (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) had six points and 10 rebounds for MSU.
