Upper Montclair, NJ (01/04/02) - The Montclair State University women's basketball team dropped a 70-49 decision today to Savannah (GA) College of Art and Design in a matinee at Panzer Gymnasium.
MSU is now 4-7 overall this season, while SCAD improves to 10-3. The Red Hawks had last played in a 69-52 loss to visiting Salisbury back on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Junior center JASMINE BATTS (Carteret, NJ) led Montclair State in scoring for the ninth time in 11 games this season, tallying a game-high 19 points against SCAD while also leading all players with 12 rebounds.
Junior guard MARIANNE HAWKING (Alma, AR) paced the visiting Bees with 13 points, five rebounds, and four steals while freshman forward TONI SCHOENLEBER (Fort Collins, CO) added 12 points.
Savannah, which scored the first eight points of the game, led by a 24-19 count at halftime. The Bees then opened the second half with a 10-2 run en route to a 46-30 advantage in sending MSU to its third non-conference defeat of the campaign and second such loss at home. Montclair outrebounded SCAD, 54-43, on the afternoon.
