Ewing, NJ (10/26/02) – The College of New Jersey's fifth-ranked women's soccer team posted a 3-0 win over the Red Hawks of Montclair State University in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action on Saturday night as sophomore midfielder Lynda Schuster (Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) tallied a goal and an assist.
TCNJ's home-unbeaten streak now stands at 36 games, while its regular-season unbeaten streak extends to 38 contests. The Lions improve to 14-0-1 on the year and 8-0 in the conference, while Montclair State, which had its five-game winning streak snapped falls to 8-5-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the NJAC.
The Lions scored just 4:46 into the game as Schuster connected on a cross from Baker and fired a shot into the lower corner past diving MSU's senior keeper
STEPHANIE ROMANKO (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick). The goal was the first allowed by the Red Hawks in 536:49 minutes. Then freshman forward Brittny Boyd (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) made it a 2-0 game as she knocked in a crossing shot from a Red Hawk defenseman at 21:49. Sophomore midfielder Stephanie Peters (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) notched a goal at 30:45 off an assist by Schuster.
That's all the scoring TCNJ would need as freshman goalkeeper Alissa Kacar (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and Romanko held both teams scoreless in the second half.
In her first career start, Kacar picked up three saves in her first solo and team's 12th shutout of the year. Romanko made six saves for Montclair State to give her 335 for her career, a new MSU record. She surpassed the old mark of 333 set by Keri O'Meara (1992-95).
The Lions now lead the all-time series with MSU, 13-0-1, with the draw coming on October 27, 1999 when TCNJ and the Red Hawks played to a 1-1 draw in the first round of the NJAC Tournament. The Lions went on to win the game, 4-3, on penalty kicks. Montclair State has only scored twice against TCNJ - once in 1999 and in a 4-1 loss in 1995.
